Buffalo Trail Public Schools is actively looking for substitute teachers to join our amazing team. Thank you for your interest in applying to Buffalo Trail Public Schools to be on the substitute teacher list. The must submit your completed application online through Apply to Education. You will be contacted through your email address if you have been approved or not.

The following substitute teacher forms must be completed in its entirety for your application to be considered:

  • Cover letter : addressed to Ms. Camille Quinton, Assistant Superintendent Human Resources, requesting authorization to teach in our division
  • Resume : which includes a chronological listing of previous teaching experience (grade/subject) and IFX and AFX placements
  • 3 Professional references : these must be inputted into your applicant profile with Apply to Education including emails (letters may be included also). If just completed a placement within BTPS, we will accept a letter from the principal and/or co-operating teacher
  • New Employee Form with VOID personal cheque attached
  • Conditions of Employment Form : signed and witnessed (the witness cannot be a spouse or relative)
  • School Listing Form : must have at least one school selected
  • Computer use Agreement Form
  • Alberta Teaching Certificate : copy
  • Original Criminal Record Check : must be within the last 6 months of when applying, the original will be returned to you at your request
  • Original TQS statement : the original will be returned to you at your request. If you have applied and it hasn't been issued yet, you must submit a copy of the letter. You may be approved to sub without a TQS statement but it may impact payment at grid. You can request your TQS to be sent directly to hrteachers@btps.ca on your behalf
  • Statements of Years of Experience from previous employing boards
  • Canada Revenue Agency Federal Personal Tax Credits Return Form (TD1)
  • Alberta Personal Tax Credits Return Form (TD1AB)

Documents must be completely filled in. For example, you will be asked for your SIN on the employee form and you must also fill it in on both the tax forms.

Sub Booking

Each school is responsible to call the individual sub/use the easy connect call out system. In some cases, teachers book their own subs and in some cases, administrative assistants or principals are in charge of the process. The school office staff is also responsible for ensuring the substitute teacher timesheets are completed correctly and signed by the appropriate people and submitted for payment to the central office.

Payroll Process

Each month, you will complete a BTPS substitute teacher timesheet at each school you sub at. The school staff will forward the forms to he central office for payment at month end. The direct deposit will be done on the 10th of the following month. The rate for subbing can be found in Article 5 of the ATA Collective Agreement on our website. * The complete ATA Collective Agreement can be viewed on our website.

We will upload your pay information to our Employee Self Serve Web Based Program. Paper copies will no longer be mailed unless you are unable to access your data electronically. If you have provided an email address on your application, you will be accessing the information electronically. In February your T4 will be uploaded to the same site.

It is extremely important that you notify payroll in writing if your name, phone number, address, or banking information etc. changes. Our preferred method of communication is via email to hrteachers@btps.ca

Please note that if you accept a teaching position with another Board or for whatever reason will be unavailable to sub, you must notify us so that we can remove you from the substitute list and issue your ROE.
