Buffalo Trail Public Schools is committed to maximizing student learning in a safe and caring environment supported by a highly effective team.

In partnership with CAREERS, Buffalo Trail Public Schools is recruiting a 0.50 FTE Careers Coordinator to increase student awareness and interest in participating in work-experiential learning opportunities and assist schools in supporting student career planning. This includes collaborating closely with teachers, principals, off-campus coordinators, career practitioners, parents, and community members across the division to raise awareness of post-secondary opportunities, support career planning and increase student access to off-campus work experience.

The following is a summary of major tasks:

  • Connecting with all secondary schools and students within Buffalo Trail Public Schools and neighbouring divisions, as required.
  • Meeting & building relationships with school staff.
  • Presenting to high school students off-campus opportunities, post-secondary options and career planning.
  • Presenting at other awareness opportunities such as high school orientation, CTF events, parent/guardian evenings, and others as deemed appropriate.
  • Facilitate addition/entry of student internships throughout school division into CAREERS system.
  • Working with interested students and supporting their applications.
  • Liaising with school staff who assist students with work readiness preparation.
  • Coordinating with the CAREERS team to share internship opportunities with schools and students.
  • Assisting with CAREERS events in Buffalo Trail Public Schools.
  • Giving presentations and providing Indigenous youth specific support.
  • Entering data and records into Salesforce in a timely manner.
  • Engaging in an online community of practice with other CAREERS Coordinators and CAREERS supervisors.

Education/Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will hold a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate and have a background in career counselling or coordination of off-campus programming.
    • Non-certified educators with experience in career coaching will be considered.
  • A strong knowledge of career counselling and post-secondary programming is an asset.
  • The ability to travel to communities and support students across Buffalo Trail Public Schools is required.
  • The ability to present to various groups is required.
